"I would just like to take this opportunity to personally thank Positive Images for the work that they have recently carried out for Westlea Housing. Not only was the Team professional in their approach to the project, taking on board the sensitivity of the young people but you also took in consideration the partnership implications.

I personally liked the developmental stages of the project in particular the storyboard; it gave us an opportunity to be productive, clear and inventive.

The team was successful in producing a high quality DVD in a very short time period and kept within in budget, the creativity was spot on; the team listened not only to Westlea but also the young people that was involved.

Once again thank you for developing an excellent DVD that not only promotes Westlea in a positive way but the level of service was outstanding.

I wish you all the very best for the future and I look forward to working with you in the again.

Board member's perspective

Television, video and the moving image in all their many and proliferating manifestations are an ever more central element of modern experience and exert a unique pull and fascination for all kinds of groups of people, especially the young. By harnessing this resource and putting it into the hands of young and disadvantaged groups Positive Images have developed a uniquely powerful and effective therapeutic tool. Anyone who has witnessed the remarkable results they have achieved with excluded young people and young offenders as part of initiatives such as Prison Me No Way, or their work with local authorities, will testify to the unique effectiveness of their pioneering work in raising self-awareness, developing insight and raising self-esteem.

I firmly believe that by establishing Positive Images and so putting that work on to a secure basis, rooted securely in the local community, the value of that work can be greatly enhanced. Positive Images will enable the scope of the work to grow, making this unique resource available to more and more people on a ongoing basis.

"I am intrigued and excited by the possibilities suggested by an organization like Positive Images. In fact I am amazed nobody has thought of it before!  Nowadays a camera is almost as easy to pick up as a pen, and storytelling through images is ubiquitous in our culture. What better way than through film-making to help disadvantaged people assess, assert and take control of their lives?  "I strongly believe the magic of making a story is transformative, whether autobiographical in a documentary sense or symbolic in the form of fiction.  In a deeply fundamental way we make up stories to explore ourselves.   "Also I am convinced that, through working for the first time as part of a film crew and creative team, the participants in these projects will find that artistic expression can be gruelling but exhilarating, that collaboration makes something more than the sum of its parts, and the process, with its unique blend of art and practicality, can teach lessons in realiance, responsibility and trust like nothing else.   "From my own standpoint I think writing and screenwriting in particular should be encouraged in its own right in the future: to portray not just our lives but our imagined lives. It is liberating to put these on paper as scenes and see them come to life with actors or at a read-through, and it is something anybody with a pen and paper can achieve and it is a talent that can be quickly honed. Again it needs discipline and dedication, but again it is thrilling - and can be life-changing."
